Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is the Leading Cause of Vision Loss in Adults
DR — The Most Feared Complication of Diabetes
Our HealthTech Solution Vitazi-MD™
Diabetic retinopathy affects small blood vessels in the retina, a light-sensitive layer of tissue in the back of the eye.
Often, there are no early signs. People developing the disease might even have 20/20 vision. Sometimes, they may develop difficulty reading or seeing faraway objects - symptoms that could easily be attributed to aging or just a minor annoyance.
Until recently, the only way to detect DR before any noticeable symptoms was through retinal examination by a trained ophthalmologist using dilation. This is a lengthy procedure that patients avoid due to lack of transportation, time-off work, reluctance to have drops put in their eyes, and lack of coordination between PCPs and specialists.
Breaking the DR Screening Barrier
With 39 million diabetics and only 18,000 ophthalmologists, access to care is a large barrier. Plus, appointments can be long because eyes need to be dilated.
At Vitazi.ai we have removed barriers to compliance with a point of care Vital Health Screenings. Our turnkey retinal imaging screening solution allows primary care physicians and endocrinologists to screen at-risk patients at the first line of defense.
